October 30, 2023 - Tom Hanks

Bethany Meyer October 30, 2023

Last week I shared this Dragnet image of Tom Hanks using a bagel phone (on the left) and recently in promotions for Asteroid City (beautiful Wes Anderson film) Tom Hanks is on the right holding a phone with white coil cord. I love that Tom Hanks plays characters that love phones with coil cords! Check out our INSTAGRAM for more images like this.

October 27, 2023 - Cava

Bethany Meyer October 27, 2023

Check out this coil cord connected to a heating lamp hanging in the greek chain restaurant Cava. Personally, I love Cava and it’s a fantastic place to grab lunch (like I did the day I took this photo in the Greenwich, CT Cava location). The food is so delicious and healthy but keeping food warm is a challenge in this setting. This coil cord serves the function of keeping food warm, while being visually appealing. It adds dimension in this kitchen layout while looking clean and streamline. Check to see if you have a Cava near you. **not sponsored by Cava, Im just a fan

October 26, 2023 - What We Do In The Shadows

Bethany Meyer October 26, 2023

Here’s a great example of coil cords used in set design! In this episode of What We Do In The Shadows, the characters are hooked up to a made up piece of magical equipment and the coil cords are such a great visual addition to the scene. They really sell the drama of this machine. Check out more like this on our instagram!

October 25, 2023 - Food Phones

Bethany Meyer October 25, 2023

Today I just want to point out that in the 1990’s food themed phones were all the rage. Here’s Newman (Wayne Knight) in Seinfeld with his hotdog phone with red coil cord. And on the right is Tom Hanks in Dragnet with his bagel phone with black glossy coil cord. Can we please bring this style back? Check out our INSTAGRAM for more like this.

October 23, 2023 - Rhys Darby

Bethany Meyer October 23, 2023

In light of seeing this very funny comedian perform at the Ridgefield Playhouse this past week, I HAVE to share this image of Rhys Darby as Murray in Flight of the Conchords (streaming on HBO Max). He steals the show as the band manager and is hilarious in everything he does (Yes Man, What We Do In The Shadows, Our Flag Means Death.. so many others). Here he is holding a black pvc telephone handset (common in office communications) and it looks like it has a round glossy black PVC cord. Classic. Follow our INSTAGRAM for more like this!

October 20, 2023 - Casper

Bethany Meyer October 20, 2023

In honor of the spooky season here are two photos I took of Cathy Moriarty in the movie Casper! Here she is seeing Bill Pullman on TV and deciding to get him to come get the ghosts out of her mansion, this happens early in the movie and is not a spoiler. This vintage (Im assuming rotary style) telephone (the movie is from 1995) features an ash colored flat PVC coiled cord. This movie is a fun October rewatch for me, and good for families. If you’d like to see more coil cords used in films, check out our INSTAGRAM HERE for more like this!

October 19, 2023 - Target

Bethany Meyer October 19, 2023

Check out instagram HERE to see more images like this. I was in Target recently and saw that the expensive vacuums were all connected using anti-theft devices with COIL CORDS! Look at these bouncing cords. They are flat black probably PVC cables, that have enough stretch to let you lift and move around the vacuums without walking away with them. Based on seeing these at REI recently, it seems like this is the new anti-theft technique. I love the use of coil cords in this setting. They also add a sense of whimsy to the vacuum display!

October 18, 2023 - Escape Room

Bethany Meyer October 18, 2023

I want to share with you all Meyer Wire’s Instagram Account HERE . Go give us a follow and see our fun photographs. We sometimes post pictures from around the office or photos of the coil cords we make, but we also have a little fun and post images of coil cords seen on TV, in movies, ads and even just out and about in our daily lives. People often ask me “who still uses coil cords?” and the answer is that they are all around you, if you start to look for them. So check out our Instagram to see daily posts of where coil cords are in your life, and it’s really a lot of fun. Also shoot us a DM if you see a coil cord in the while and want us to include it!

To give you an example of an upcoming post going up on the instagram this week, it’s Halloween which means SCARY MOVIE time! The images above are photographs I took of coil cords as seen in the movie Escape Room. This movie had a bunch of cords from communications (telephones) to medical equipment. The movie was a lot of fun if you are into the spooky genre and it’s currently streaming on Hulu. Check it out!

October 17, 2023

Bethany Meyer October 17, 2023

Four our first wire blog post, it’s fitting that we use it to celebrate this guy (Brian Meyer) who’s birthday was a few days ago. Brian has worked at Meyer Wire since May 9th, 1975.. 48 years! Brian has worked many positions here over the years but Sales had been his main role. In 2005 he and his wife Karen bought Meyer Wire from Cole Hersee and he is now the President of Meyer Wire. Talk about working your way up the ladder! Here he is celebrating his birthday and holding his precious dog Toby. If you drop by Meyer Wire you will find two pups running around and this little guy is one of them. Brian and Karen adopted Toby a year ago and we joke that these two are twins.
